Taking a proactive approach to your health care

Calgary Foothills PCN is using a new online tool – Care Opinion – where patients can share their experiences with health teams to drive positive change.
What sets this website apart from other feedback options is the inclusion of an online moderator, who helps patients craft constructive stories to identify areas of improvement and highlight health team success. Once a story is posted on the PCN Care Opinion page, PCN teams can read, respond and keep patients informed about how their feedback was used.
“Empowering patients to be partners in their care is important to the PCN and Care Opinion gives us another opportunity to have patients’ voices heard,” says Liz Deneer, Program Manager and lead of the PCN’s Partners in Health project.
“The patient voice is really important because the patient is the one looking after their health care day-to-day,” says Gisele Scott-Woo, PCN Community Advisory Group member. “When we collectively share our stories with our health care providers it can help them understand our perspective.”
Led by Imagine Citizens Network – with funding from Alberta Health Services and Alberta Innovates – the tool is now available to patients and health care organizations across Alberta.
