Valentine’s Day usually brings to mind chocolates, champagne, flowers and romantic meals. It’s also a good reminder to think about your heart health.
Your heart works hard for you and looking after it is important to maintaining your overall health.
Some simple ways to improve your heart health include:
- Staying active – even something as simple as going for a walk each day
- Quitting smoking
- Limiting your consumption of red meat, sugar and unhealthy fats
- Reducing stress
“Quitting smoking and maintaining a healthy blood pressure are the two most impactful things you can do for your heart,” says clinical pharmacist Catharine Banks. “Next to that, if you have high cholesterol, taking a statin or implementing the Mediterranean diet have a significant impact, as well.”
To help maintain your heart health, the PCN has free workshops and one-on-one appointments with health team members.
